Importance of Motivation

Before we begin this blog on Motivation, let me introduce myself. I’m Imtiaz Ahmad, a senior software engineer who became an award-winning instructor on a course-taking platform, a YouTuber, and the founder of a multi-millionaire dollar business.

Now, if you’re wondering “How did you do it?” then you’re in the right place to know about it.

So, in this blog, I want to talk to you about the importance of Motivation.

In my life, I’ve faced several problems and challenges and I’ve learned a lot through the ups and downs. Now, the most important advice I can provide to you is to consume positive information and motivational content. Believe it or not, if it wasn’t for motivational content, hands-down I wouldn’t be as successful as I am today.

Now, the truth is that life is filled with challenges, life is filled with ups and downs like health problems, financial issues, family problems, career challenges, and so on. Whatever the problem is, in life, everyone has their own set of challenges to face. So, I’m going to ask you a very important question here “During any kind of challenge you face, are you going to just sit there and binge-watch Netflix? Or are you going to try and change your life?”

Consume motivational content

It is going to take a lot of energy and a lot of hard work to push through your challenges. And I can understand that sometimes, you need an exogenous boost to get through these periods. This is where motivational content will come to the rescue. But you may ask “Why do we need motivational content?”, “Why depend on external motivation?”

So, to understand this idea let me go deeper into how our mind works.

The fact of the matter is that your mind is a very limited real estate. So, you should treat it as a beautiful garden that has a limited amount of space where you can only plant so much. Now, let’s understand how our mind works using the same analogy where our mind is a garden.

Your Mind is a garden

When you do not take care of your garden for so long weed is going to grow without any effort. Because we all know that weed does not require any fertilizers or watering. These unnecessary plants can be correlated with negative thoughts. Just as your garden will become a mess when you do not take care of it, similarly, your mind will become a mess too.

So, let me ask you a simple question “How do you maintain a garden and make it beautiful?”

First of all, you need to clean your garden. Then start planting flowers and other good plants. Most importantly, water the plants regularly. Now, from time to time, weeds will continue to grow, so you need to remove them regularly to keep the garden clean.

As you can see, taking care of a garden takes effort. And my point is that it also takes effort to take care of your mind. Just as you need to plant good flowers and plants in a garden, you also need to plant and think good thoughts and ideas in your mind. Just as you must constantly water your plants, you also need to constantly think positive thoughts and consume positive information. This is where motivational content will come to the rescue.

Now, take me as an example. Every morning I wake up, whenever I go in the shower, my phone will play motivational content in the background. I’m always listening to positive information. So, I listen to motivational videos, inspirational stories and biographies, interesting podcasts, positive anecdotes, and so on. This impacts my mind in such a way that I start to think with positive words, work with positive energy, and live with positive reinforcement.

And the interesting fact is when you consume motivational content from successful people you will start to observe patterns that are repeated, and habits that are common and you will start to connect these dots in your mind. My mind is filled with stories of people that have conquered so much in their life. So, anytime I am going through challenges in my life, I’m able to pull out some story or some positive thought because my mind is filled with a huge collection of all positive anecdotes.

Do not listen to naysayers

Let’s go back to the analogy, where we can agree unwanted plants need to be removed regularly. Comparing this idea to the mind, we need to remove negative thoughts and negative people. Because your mind is a very limited real estate. So, you need to have a filter in your mind where you reject the negative information. And this is very important to apply among the people who come across our life.

There are all kinds of people in the world where a certain type of people are nosy, always trying to acquire information about our life. They try to be curious about you like “Oh dude, what happened to you”, Oh man that sucks”, “Oh how did it happen to you”, and that is not going to be of any use to them. But what happens is that they get the information, weigh down their own life, and disturb your mindset too.

Whereas there are also people somebody who is trying to consume positive information like myself. When I meet people, I want to hear their success stories. So, I will go on and ask “Hey dude, what did you do”, “That’s awesome man”, and “that’s great”.

I want to get that type of information. Not someone’s break-up story or struggles which is not going to be healthy for me or you. Because I may reinforce those same negative thoughts back to you. So, I would rather provide you with positive thoughts and ideas you can learn from. That’s what I always do. I have always tried to consume positive information.

Now, there’s another perspective where one of the common problems you may also face is the comments you receive from the people around you. Because people start to say that “Why are you watching motivational videos?”, “Motivational content is a cliché thing”, “Why don’t you just do what the guy is saying”, “Why are you wasting all this time just watching a video” and so on. But when you ask that person “What do you do with your time?” they will be like “Oh, I watch Netflix”.

So, in situations like these, do not listen to naysayers. Do not listen to these avid Netflix watchers. Listen to someone who has achieved in their life such as myself. Because I’m sharing a personal experience that has helped my career, and business.

Now, I’m not telling you to consume positive information or watch motivational content all the time. But you can try to avoid wasting your time watching Netflix and use that precious time to your advantage. It takes intention and it takes work. Work, work, work!

Law of Attraction

Moving on, I would like to share one of the biggest life lessons which I believe will be very useful to you. The lesson is about the law of attraction. Let me provide an anecdote from my personal experience to convey the idea in a better way.

This is about a close friend of mine who always has road troubles. When he’s at a traffic light that turns from red to green, within a second, someone behind him is going to bump their horn. Another situation is when he is driving normally in his lane and someone overtakes him and he will be like “Oh what the heck” So, he projects negative thoughts on the road. And these troubles always happen to him, parking tickets you name it.

Now, I know that he’s not a very bad driver but when I think about it “Why does this always happen to him?” I realized from his exertion and anger are a result of his reactive attitude to these scenarios. So when he produces negative energy it just catapults into more and more negative situations coming his way.

Whereas when I’m at a traffic light, which turns from red to green, after two or three seconds pass by and I still didn’t hit the pedal to go. I don’t get someone bumping the horn in one second. No one overtakes me on the road. So when I think “Why does that not happen to me?” it’s because I try to stay positive.

If someone bumped the horn on me I’m not gonna try to get him back. It’s just too much energy. If I try to go down that path I’m just gonna weigh myself down. Even when someone gives me a middle finger on the road, it doesn’t matter. I would just pretty much laugh it off because it shouldn’t affect me.

As I am aware that I shouldn’t react negatively. “Why should I change my state of well-being?”

That’s not worth it. And that’s what I do. I like to stay positive. I like to read positive books. I like to stay motivated and always constantly consume positive information. I am successful in my career and business because of motivational videos.

To sum up, fill your mind with positive anecdotes, and not the Netflix episodes. Always consume positive information, and stay positive. The Law of attraction does work. So, use this technique of consuming positive information to reprogram your thoughts you will be able to change your life around you.
